What we look at

• Weight: how heavy the load is, and whether the weight is spread out or concentrated

• Storage: on the floor, stacked or in racking

• Handling: forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors or automated equipment

• Shipping: one-way, round trips or overseas

• Customer rules: required size, grade, new only or heat treatment

Questions that change the answer

Does the load go into racking? A pallet that holds a load on the floor can sag or fail when it spans rack beams, so racked loads need more pallet.

​

Do pallet jacks enter from the side? Then you need block pallets, not standard stringer pallets. See two-way and four-way pallets for the difference.

Does the load leave the country? Then the pallets likely need ISPM-15 heat treatment.

​

Does the pallet come back? Pallets that make many trips justify new or Grade A recycled. One-way loads often do fine on Grade B.

Getting the most for the money

​

In other words, the right pallet is the cheapest one that does the job safely. That might be a recycled 48x40, a combo pallet or a custom pallet sized to your product. We source all of them, so we have no reason to push one over another.

Questions about pallet specs

Do I need engineering drawings?

No. The weight, the dimensions and how the load moves are usually enough to start. If you have drawings, send them.

Can you match a pallet I already use?

Yes. Send measurements and photos of the deck boards and the stringers or blocks, and we will source a match.

What if the first pallet is not right?

Tell us what happened, and we will adjust the spec on the next order.
